About Buck Mountain and Our Hike
Buck Mountain is located in the Lake George Wild Forest, which is the southeaster portion of the Adirondack Park and is part of the Adirondack Forest Preserve.
After a 4 hour drive to Lake George, we were excited to begin our hiking adventure and get the blood circulation back into our legs. We wanted to make the most of the beautiful warm sunny day as the rest of the weekend forecast was not very promising.
We picked Buck Mountain to be our first hiking destination in Lake George and the Adirondacks. Buck Mountain is a moderate hike with a few rocky sections located on the east side of Lake George. The climb is not very scenic but the summit offers stunning panoramic views of Lake George and the mountains.
Along the way, we had an exciting wonders of nature experience. We witnessed a snake trying to eat a toad.
Sadly, we could not enjoy the summit for too long because the bugs on the mountain top were vicious. If you look at the close-up photos of Sheldon’s face, you can actually see the numerous bugs attacking him. It was a true bug invasion. We ran off the mountain.
